She was born Jodie Stephanie D. Turner-Smith on 7 September 1986 in Peterborough, England to father Eron Smith and mother Hilda Smith. She has older brother Brandon Antonino Giovanni Smith and older sister Toni Gasson-Smith, who were both born in Jamaica.

She joined Gaithersburg High School, graduating from the same. After that, she attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 2008.

She debuted her career as an actress in 2013’s episode of fantasy horror drama TV series True Blood as Siren #2. Her next role as in two episodes of Mad Dogs (2015-2016) as Angel.

She made her appearances include in Ice (2016), in The Last Ship (2017-2018) as Sgt. Azima Kandie, in Nightflyers (2018) as Melantha Jhirl and in Jett (2019) as Josie, The Neon Demon (2016), Lemon (2017), Queen & Slim (2019) as Angela “Queen” Johnson and in upcoming films Without Remorse (2020) as Karen Greer and in After Yang as Kyra.
