Colin Jost is an actress, comedian, and author from the United States. Since 2005, he has been a writer for Saturday Night Live, and since 2014, he has been Weekend’s co-anchor. From 2012 to 2015, he also worked as one of the show’s co-head writers, and in 2017, he returned as one of the show’s head writers.
Jost was born on June 29, 1982, in New York City, U.S. Jost’s parents are Kerry J. Kelly who was the chief medical officer for the New York City Fire Department, and Daniel A. Jost was the publisher of The Owl, the school newspaper at Regis High School in Manhattan. He majored in history and literature at Harvard University, with a concentration on Russian and British literature, and graduated with honors in 2004.

He was then hired as a creator for the Nickelodeon animated show Kappa Mikey, which ran for just a few seasons. He sent in a writing packet to NBC’s Saturday night stay after leaving that job and was hired as a writer in 2005.
Jost is the writing manager for Saturday Night Live from 2009 to 2012. From 2012 to 2015, he was a co-head editor, and he reclaimed that role in late 2017. He often collaborates with Rob Klein, another SNL co-head editor.
Norm Macdonald was a major influence on Jost’s replacement anchor work, as Macdonald’s sound became the only one he knew in high school. Tina Fey is also mentioned as a source of inspiration. In addition to the Weekend update, Jost made a brief cameo appearance in a Republican presidential debate comic strip as Ohio Governor John Kasich.
Jost has worked in a number of comedy-related roles. He has made a name for himself as a stand-up comic, appearing on late nights. Jimmy Fallon, TBS, and HBO are all included. In 2009, he was chosen as a “Fresh Face” at the Montréal Just for Laughs festival, and he has since competed in the Chicago Just for Laughs pageant in 2011 and 2012, as well as the Montréal competition in 2010 and 2012.
Jost and Michael Che appeared on the March 4, 2019, episode of WWE’s Monday Night Raw, where they were both named as special correspondents for WrestleMania 35. They became involved in a storyline with wrestler Braun Strowman in the March 4 episode, which led to both Jost and Che becoming part of the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania.
Jost’s memoir, a completely Punchable Face: A Memoir, was published in July 2020. The book was well-received, and it made the New York Times bestseller list.
