Jon Ossoff is an American white man from Atlanta, Georgia. He is an investigative journalist, a politician, and a documentary filmmaker. Since 2021, he has been the senior United States senator from Georgia. Ossoff, a Democrat, previously worked as a documentary filmmaker and investigative journalist.
He was born Thomas Jonathan Ossoff in Atlanta, Georgia, the U.S on February 16, 1987. He grew up in the unincorporated town of Northlake. His birth sign is Aquarius. Heather Fenton, Ossoff’s mother, was born and raised in Sydney, Australia, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 23. She is a co-founder of NewPower PAC, a group dedicated to electing women to elected office in Georgia.
Richard Ossoff, his father, is the owner of Strafford Publications, a specialized publishing company. He is of Russian Jewish and Lithuanian Jewish descent. Ossoff grew up as a devout Jew. He previously held Australian citizenship through his mother.
He went to Atlanta’s Paideia Academy, which is an independent school. He interned for civil rights activist and U.S. Senator John Lewis while in high school. Ossoff earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 2009.
He took courses from Madeleine Albright, the former US Secretary of State, and Michael Oren, the former Israeli Ambassador to the United States. In 2013, he graduated from the London School of Economics with a Master of Science in international political economy.
From 2007 to 2012, Ossoff served as a national security staffer and legislative assistant for international affairs and defense policy for U.S. Representative Hank Johnson, after receiving a recommendation from John Lewis.
He began serving as the managing director and chief executive officer of Insight TWI, a London-based investigative television production company, in 2013.
In addition, he ran for Georgia’s sixth congressional district as a Democratic nominee. Karen Handel, a Republican, defeated him.
Furthermore, in the 2020 Senate election in Georgia, he ran as a Democratic nominee in the Democratic primary to unseat incumbent Republican senator David Perdue. Since neither he nor Perdue received 50% of the vote in the general election in November 2020, a run-off election was set for January 5, 2021.
He was elected to the United States Senate from Georgia on January 20, 2021.
