David Adedeji Adeleke aka Davido is a Nigerian singer-songwriter and record producer who was born in the United States. Following the release of his debut studio album, he became known as Davido, Baddest, and ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ (OBO).

Davido: Family Life

David Adeleke was born on November 21, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, to Adedeji and Vero Adeleke, as the fifth of their five children. Adedeji Adeleke, his father, is a Nigerian business magnate, and Vero Adeleke, his mother, is a University Lecturer. On March 3, 2003, his mother died.

Qualification

Davido went to British International School on Victoria Island in Lagos, Nigeria, before enrolling at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, to pursue his Business Administration.

Journey of Life

He started his musical career at Oakwood University, and after the release of his second single, “Dami duro,” he became a household name. Davido won the MOBO Awards for Best African Acts in 2017 and was the first African to perform live at the event. He was the first African-based artist to earn a BET Award on the main stage the following year.

In 2011, he moved to support his music career, but he had trouble persuading his father. After school, Davido’s family expects his children to enter the family business, but he chose a different direction. He enrolled in Babcock University in Ogun State after reaching an agreement with his father and graduated in 2015.

Davido’s first single, “Back When,” featuring Naeto C, was released before “Dami duro.” Clarence Peters shot it in London and launched ‘Dami Duro’ on October 30, 2011. He co-produced the single with Shizzi, and Clarence fired it in Lagos this time. In January 2012, the song Dami Duro was released with an impressive video, and it quickly became the talk of the town, receiving regular media airplay.

Omo Baba Olowo (Child of a Wealthy Person), his debut studio album, was released on July 17, 2012, under the HKN Music Record Label. OBO’s executive producer was Davido, who collaborated with other producers such as Jay Sleek, Spellz, Maleek Berry, and others. Sina Rambo, Ice Price, Kay Switch, B-Red, 2 Face, and Naeto C. attended the ceremony.

Business

The young musician has signed a sponsorship contract with AXE, Travelbeta, and other well-known brands such as Pepsi, MTN, and others.

On April 6, 2012, Davido signed an N30 million endorsement deal with MTN, Africa’s largest mobile network. He was named the face of MTN Pulse, a youth-oriented marketing campaign in Nigeria.

He was also endorsed by Guinness Nigeria on October 24, 2013, and participated in the company’s ‘World of More Concert’ alongside other top Nigerian musicians such as Olamide, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, D’banj, and others.

On May 9, 2018, he revealed that he had signed an endorsement deal with Infinix Mobile, a smartphone manufacturer based in Hong Kong.
