“Supergirl” star Chyler Leigh is opening up publicly about her sexuality during a blog post on Monday.
Leigh, who plays Supergirl’s adopted sister Alex Danvers within the hit TV series “Supergirl.” She wrote an essay, obtained by Yahoo and Entertainment Weekly. Reflecting on how her character beginning as a lesbian in Season 2 of The CW superhero show inspired her own self-acceptance.
“When I used to be told that my character was to return call at season 2. A flurry of thoughts and emotions flew through and around me due to the responsibility I personally felt to authentically represent Alex’s journey.” she wrote on the web site for Create Change, a corporation she co-founded so as to “help you become the change you would like to ascertain .”
“What I didn’t realize was how the scene where she finally confessed her truth would leap off the pages of the script. And genuinely become a variation of my very own,” Leigh wrote, consistent with Yahoo and Entertainment Weekly.

While the actress provides more details on her own sexuality. She continued to debate the negative responses from others regarding her character’s beginning experience.
“I was told from dear friends (and even avid watchers of Supergirl) that they might not watch the show due to the very fact that Alex’s journey took a turn from their but acceptable beliefs,” Leigh said. “Soon after, they began to distance themselves and eventually my family and that I was outcast, marking the loss of the many folks we loved.”

Despite the criticism, Leigh admitted she doesn’t hold a grudge towards these reactions because “we all have had a tough time in a method or another with acceptance.”
Leigh includes the post by revealing the pride she and her husband. “7th Heaven” actor Nathan West, have felt during this journey.
“He and that I am still discovering the depths of ourselves and every other. But throughout our journey, we’ve learned to be pleased with who we are, regardless of the value .”
