Philip Rosenthal was born in Queens, New York, on January 27, 1960. He was born into a Jewish family and spent much of his childhood in New City, Rockland County, New York. He was born to his father Helen Rosenthal and Max Rosenthal. Unfortunately, his mother passed away n 2019 because of Lou Gehrig’s disease. He grew up along with his brother named Richard. PBS premiered the six-episode television series I’ll Have What Phil’s Having on September 28, 2015, in which Rosenthal visits well-known locations around the world to learn about their food cultures. Somebody Feed Phil, a reworked version of the film, premiered on Netflix on January 12, 2018.

The couple also has two daughters, a son named Ben and a daughter named Lily Rosenthal.
