Who is Mike Todd?

Mike Todd was an American film producer and theater. Todd’s real name is Avrom Hirsch Goldbogen. He was well-famous for his 1956 production of ‘Around the world in 80 days’ which succeed to get an Academy Award for Best picture. The first production of Todd was motivated by a performance of ‘ The Swing Mikado”.

Soda jerk was his first job. Previously, he runs at a different jobs like shoe salesman, store wind decorator, etc. Todd played a vital role in technical innovation in the film industry during the 1950s. In the same way, he shaped the Cinerama company with Lowell Thomas and Fred Waller, to set to use the widescreen film process called Cinerama created by Waller. Afterward, Todd abandoned the Cinerama company and established the widescreen,70mm film format called Todd- Ao as well as American optical company.

Chaim Goldbogen was his father’s name and Sophia Hellerman was his mother’s name. Both were polished Jewish immigrants. He was the youngest son of nine children and he was from a poor family.

Mike married Bertha freshman in Crown point on valentine’s day 1927 at the age of 17. They were blessed with a son, Mike Todd, Jr. He was born in 1929. Unfortunately, Bertha, his wife died on 12th August 1946 due to pneumothorax in Santa Monica, California. Then he got to bond with actress Joan Blondell on 5th July 1947  but they divorced on 8th June 1950. Actress Elizabeth Tylor was his third wife. Todd had a tempestuous relationship with her. The mayor of Acapulco has performed a ceremony, at that time, they exchanged vows on 2nd February 1957, in Mexico. They had a daughter, Elizabeth Frances[Liza] Todd.
