Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Man United by ‘mutual agreement. Manchester United has assured us that Cristiano Ronaldo has left the club, effective instantly.

Ronaldo, 37, has agreed on a mutual ending of his contract following his volatile interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized United and manager Erik ten Hag.

A report issued by the club on Tuesday read: “Cristiano Ronaldo is to quit Manchester United by mutual understanding, with rapid effect.

“The club thanks him for his huge assistance across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and desires him and his family nicely for the destiny.

“Everyone at Manchester United stays concentrated on continuing the team’s progress under Erik ten Hag and performing jointly to deliver success on the pitch.”

Why Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Man United?

Authorities have pointed to ESPN that Ronaldo desired to leave and that United has not paid him to go.

Ronaldo’s contract at Old Trafford was due to operate until June, but United desired to cancel it early after the striker revealed to Morgan the club had produced “zero progress” since Sir Alex Ferguson quit in 2013 and that he “doesn’t appreciate ” Ten Hag.

In an accompanying statement, Ronaldo, who reentered United from Juventus in 2021, said it was “time for a new challenge.” He said: “Following talks with Manchester United we have mutually approved to end our agreement early.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever modify. However, it feels like the right time to desire a new challenge.

“I wish the group every win for the remainder of the season and for the fortune.”

Ronaldo is in Qatar training for his first game at the World Cup, with Portugal owed to face Ghana on Thursday.

He can enter another club instantly after leaving Old Trafford and will not hold to wait until the January transfer window.

United had been willing to settle the position quickly, with authorities revealing to ESPN they were willing to sue for violation of the contract if a joint ending could not be approved.
