Cheryl was born as Cheryl Stephanie Bautista Burke on May 3, 1984, in San Mateo County, California, U.S. She is the daughter of Stephen Burke (father) and Sherri Burke (Mother). Her father is from a Russian & Irish ethnic background, and her mother from Filipino. Additionally, Nicole Burke and Mandy Wolf are her sisters.

Cheryl began ballet lessons at the age of four. As a means of entertainment, her family dances at home. She turned to ballroom dancing after taking ballet lessons.
