Education

He studied at the local Caldecote Road School for primary education and then attended the City of Leicester Boys’ Grammar School since the school was more promising for students who were enthusiastic about football. Gary was a versatile sportsman at the academy and play in both football and cricket. Lineker commanded the Leicestershire Schools cricket squad for 5 years and also entertained evolving into a professional cricketer instead of a footballer.

After graduating from high school, he determined against going to university and began focusing more on a potential career in football. In 1976, he entered the youth ranks of his local club Leicester City.

Career and Profession

Lineker initiated his career by entering his hometown club Leicester City and his prolific goal-scoring enabled the club to win promotion to the First Division. After his time with Leicester City, he played for Everton for a season. On the base of his creditable performance for the English national squad in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, he was contracted by the Spanish club Barcelona for whom he played for 3 years. He recreated for English club Tottenham Hotspur as well after quitting Barcelona and supported the London-established club wins an FA Cup. Regarding the end of his football career, he developed a successful media career and is presently a popular sports commentator.

His performance at the World Cup in 1986 created him an international star and thereafter, he transferred to the Spanish club Barcelona, who paid £2,800,000 for his assistance. He scored 21 goals in his 1st season and in his 2nd season supported the club to win the Copa del Ray in 1988, and obeyed the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1989. During his three-year stint at the club, he scored 42 goals in 103 league games.

He was one of the most successful strikers in the English league during his three-year time at the club and achieved 67 league goals in 105 impressions.

After he left Tottenham Hotspur and entered the Japanese club Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1992. where he was at the end of his profession and mourned from injuries. His 23 matches and scored 9 goals during his two-year tour with the Japanese club. He retired in 1994.

Following the ending of his playing career, Lineker has maintained a successful media career during which he has been a presenter, columnist, and football show host. Nowadays, he hosts the iconic BBC football show ‘Match of the Day’.
