Sandeep Lamichhane is a qualified young Nepali cricketer who represents the Nepal national cricket team. He is a right-handed leg spin bowler and also bats occasionally. Lamichhane achieved widespread recognition after being selected to play in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL). He was evolving the first Nepalese cricketer to receive an IPL contract. The Delhi Daredevils team acquired him for INR 2 million.

He made his international debut in the ICC World Cricket League Championship on April 16, 2016, against Namibia. On 6 September 2022, a 17-year-old girl filed a police complaint accusing Sandeep Lamichhane of raped in a hotel room in Kathmandu on the night of 21 August. The police confirmed that CCTV footage from the hotel revealed that Lamichhane was staying with the girl. As a result, on 8 September, the Kathmandu District Court authorized Lamichhane’s arrest for further investigation. However, at that time, he was supposed to participate in the 2022 Caribbean Premier League representing Jamaica Tallawahs. Following the news of the rape allegations, he withdrew from the Caribbean Premier League but denied any wrongdoing.

Subsequently, Nepal’s cricket governing body, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), suspended Lamichhane from the national team. The police in Nepal issued a diffusion notice through Interpol against Lamichhane, leading to his addition to the Interpol police fugitive list.

Lamichhane surrendered himself to the Nepal police on 6 October 2022 and was taken to Gaushala, Kathmandu jail. Later, the Kathmandu District Court sent him to Central Jail Sundhara for judicial custody until the final verdict. However, he was released after posting a bail of Rs2 million set by the Patan High Court, despite being accused of raping a minor.

In response to a review petition filed by Lamichhane, a joint bench of judges Dhruva Raj Nanda and Ramesh Dahal ordered his release on bail with certain conditions.

Sandeep Lamichhane is a Nepalese cricketer who started playing cricket at the Chitwan Cricket Academy. He was discovered by Nepali Captain Paras Khadka and former coach of Nepal Cricket Team Pubudu Dassanayake at the age of 14 and was selected for the youth camp.

In April 2016, Lamichhane made his List A debut in the 2015-17 ICC World Cricket League Championship against Namibia. He became the 5th bowler in the U-19 World Cup history to take a hat-trick, In the second match of the 2016 U-19 Cricket World Cup. He was taking the wickets of Lorcan Tucker, Adam Dennison, and Flachra Tucker of Ireland.

In September 2016, Australian captain Michael Clarke offered Lamichhane to join the Sydney-based Western Suburbs Districts Cricket Club.
