De Vega was discovered in the Palarong Pambansa( transl. public games) in the 1970s and was signed to be a part of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws varsity track platoon. She also came to be a member of the Gintong Alay( transl. golden immolation) Track & Field program. She was first counseled by her father Tatang De Vega and Claro Pelosi. latterly, her trainers included Santos Magno and Anthony Benson.

De Vega first made an impact at the 1981 Southeast Asian Games( ocean Games) held in Manila with gold order performances in the 200 and 400 cadence events exceeding records set at the Asian Games. As Asia’s sprint queen, she ran down with the gold order in the 100- cadence gusto in the 1982 New Delhi Asiad and duplicated the feat in the same event at the 1986 Seoul Asiad where she clocked11.53 seconds.

Athlete Life

De Vega won the gold in the 100 measures at the ocean Games( 1987, 1991, and 1993). She also outgunned the 200 cadence event in 1981, 1983, 1987, and 1993. She has doubly won both the 100 and 200 cadence golds in the Asian Athletics Crowns – 1983 and 1987. As a 16- time old in the 1981 edition, she placed second in the 400 cadence run and also bagged the citation order in the 200 measures.

De Vega was a two-time Olympian, who represented the Philippines at the 1984 and 1988 Summer Olympics.
She also brought home a tableware order in the 200- cadence race from the 1986 Seoul Asiad, and has formerly represented a friend for the Long Jumps and broke her record.

In 1989 until 1991, De Vega took a break from calisthenics. During this period she got an academic degree and got married. She entered the 1991 Asian Athletics Crowns and made a decent finish of seventh place.
The sprinter retired after contending at the track and field event of the 1994 Manila- Fujian Games held in October. She won the 100m event. The athlete blazoned that she’d not be contending at the forthcoming edition of the Philippine National Games at that time. She retired from her athletic career in 1994.

latterly life

De Vega was tagged as councilor of her native Meycauayan city in Bulacan fiefdom in 2001. In early 2005, she was appointed a liaison officer of the Alliance of Trainers and Athletes of the Philippines with the Philippine Sports Commission.

In December 2005, De Vega went to Singapore after entering three job offers from Singaporean private seminaries to handle athletics. She counseled youthful athletes in Singapore. Her most recent public appearance was as one of the flag liaisons at the opening form of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines.

In 2018, De Vega was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer. In July 2022, her son Stephanie revealed that she passed brain surgery but was” in critical condition”.

De Vega failed on August 10, 2022, after battling cancer while rehabilitated at the Makati Medical Center.
