Hilarie Burton is an American actress and producer who is well known for hosting Total Request Live and starring as Peyton Sawyer in One Tree Hill, as Sara Ellis in White Collar.
She was born Hilarie Ross Burton on July 1, 1982, in Sterling, Virginia, the USA to father Bill Burton, an antique collector and mother Lisa Burton, a real estate agent. She has 3 siblings – younger brothers Billy Burton, Johnny Burton, and Conrad Burton. Her ethnicity is a mix of English, Scots-Irish/Northern Irish, remote French, Dutch, etc.
She joined Park View High School, graduating in 2000 and went on to study at New York University and Fordham University.
She rose to fame after she appeared as a VJ for MTV’s Total Request Live (TRL). She appeared to present at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards and eventually went on to land a role in teen drama series Dawson’s Creek (2002).

She appeared in TV series such as in White Collar (2010-2013) as Sara Ellis, Grey’s Anatomy (2013) as Dr. Lauren Boswell, Extant (2015) as Anna Schaefer, Lethal Weapon (2016-2017) as Karen Palmer, among numerous others.
Apart from an acting career, she appeared in an appearance in Jack’s Mannequin’s music video for the single The Mixed Tape.
Moreover, she created Southern Gothic Production (SoGoPro), a production company in 2007 along with Nick Gray, Kelly Tenney, James Burton, and Meg Mortimer.
For her wonderful performance, she was nominated for 3 Teen Choice Awards and has won awards in Sarasota Film Festival (2006) and Hollywood Film Awards (2008).
In October 2017, for the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Burton retweeted a video clip from TRL Uncensored. She revealed how actor Ben Affleck “wraps his arm around me, and comes over and tweaks my left boob”. After seeing the video, Affleck apologized via Twitter, “I acted inappropriately toward Ms. Burton and I sincerely apologize.”
The same month Hilarie Burton spoke on sexual assault charges against One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn by the female crew. Alleging that she had also been sexually harassed by Schwahn.
