Ed started his comedy and acting career as a writer and performer with New York City sketch comedy bands. He presents himself as a trainee film editor at Crew Cuts, a post-production facility in New York City.

In 20014, he made his first appearance in the movie, Blackbailed : The Bobby Dukes Story portrayed the role of Bunker McLaughlin.

Helms gave an audition for Jon Stewart’s  The Daily Show and start working as a correspondent from 2005 and left the show in 2006.

Furthermore, he played the lead role as Andy Bernard in the TV series The Office. In 2011, he featured in the movie, Cedar Rapids. He also co-starred in the blockbuster Hangover film trilogy as Stuart Price.
