Michael Schur is an American television producer, writer, and actor who is best known for his work on the NBC sitcom The Office (2005–2013). He’s also known for his roles on Parks and Recreation (2009–2015), which he co-produced with Greg Daniels, and The Good Place (2016–present), both of which he created.
Schur was born Michael Herbert Schur on October 29, 1975, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, United States. He was born to Warren M. Schur and Anne Herbert. His birth sign is Scorpio.
Schur is a graduate of William H. Hall High School in West Hartford, Connecticut, and of Harvard University class of 1997 in 1998.
Until 2004, Schur worked as a writer for NBC’s Saturday Night Live. In 2001, he took over as producer of Weekend Update, and his first show in the new position was the premiere of Saturday Night Live. He went on to work as a producer and writer for NBC’s The Office, for which he wrote ten episodes.
In the episodes “Initiation,” in which Dwight takes Ryan to his beet farm, “Money,” in which Jim and Pam spend the night at the farm, “The Deposition,” “Koi Pond,” and “Counseling,” Schur played Dwight’s cousin Mose. They also co-wrote The Office, The Accountants webisodes with Paul Lieberstein.
Under the alias “Ken Tremendous,” Schur also contributed to the sports journalism blog “Fire Joe Morgan.” Schur started writing for SB Nation’s Baseball Nation blog on March 31, 2011. Schur’s Twitter handle is Ken Tremendous.
‘The Good Place,’ a sitcom produced by Schur, On September 19, 2016, the show premiered on NBC.
The teleplay for “Nosedive” was co-written by Schur. In 2016, Rashida Jones starred in an episode of the television anthology series Black Mirror based on a story by Charlie Brooker.
