Larry Grayson was an English actor and a television presenter. He reached the top of his glory in the 1970s and early 80s. He is better known to be the host of the popular BBC series The Generation Game and for his high camp and English music hall humor.

Family Life

Larry Grayson was born William White in 1923 to single parents. It was adopted in a coal mining family in Nuneaton. He never met his father. Therefore, he had two favorite sisters, Flo and May. Her mother, Ethel, gave up Larry for adoption to a coal mining family in Nuneaton who were friends of hers.

Therefore, her adoptive mother Alice died so Fan, (Florence) his younger daughter took over and raised Larry. Larry left school at the age of 14 and started performing in men working in clubs. After that, he changed his stage name to Billy Breen. He also toured the UK, not only in male reviews and drag shows but also in Variety. During this time Larry and his agent changed their name to Gray Larrison.

Funeral

On New Year’s Eve 1994, he was taken to the hospital. As a result, he was found to be suffering from a perforated appendix. After being allowed to marry the hospital, Grayson died on January 7, 1995, in Nuneaton, and his body was buried with other members of his family at Easton Road Cemetery in his hometown of Nuneaton.

He started his career At the age of 14, he worked for Breen as an act of support on the comedy club circuit. Over the next thirty years, he toured the UK not only in men’s magazines and drag shows but also in variety shows.
In 1970, he appeared on Danny La Rue, the most famous drag show in the business. He also made his guest appearance on Saturday Variety. He also made his good appearance on Shut That Door! And The Larry Grayson Show.

However, he rose to fame when he was hired by the BBC to present Saturday night’s show The Generation Game in 1978, as Bruce Forsyth’s replacement. He was assisted by his co-star St Clair Island, whom he frequently referred to as “my charming island.”

However, in 1981, The Generation Game was being surpassed in the rankings by the rival ITV Game for a Laugh. Grayson’s program decided to leave The Generation Game in 1982.

He also introduced every second count’s driver (1986). He retired from television in 1981 but continued to perform in the theater, particularly in the pantomime.
