Ke Huy Quan is a Vietnamese-American actor who recently won the Golden Globe Award for his performance in ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’.

He quit acting for many years before deciding to make a comeback. Jonathan Ke Quan is an American actor and stunt choreographer.

People primarily know him for his appearances in the 1980s Steven Spielberg productions of ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ and ‘The Goonies.

Ke Huy Quan was born in Saigon, South Vietnam on August 20, 1971. As of 2023, his age is 51.

Jonathan Ke Quan was born to Vietnamese parents of ethnic Chinese origin. He has not disclosed the details of his parents but he is one of their nine children.

In 1978, Quan’s family moved from Vietnam, and he, his father, and five siblings escaped to a refugee camp in Hong Kong, while his mother and three other siblings escaped to Malaysia. The entire family relocated to the United States in 1979.

Johnathan is of American-Vietnamese nationality. Similarly, he holds to Chinese ethnic background.

Concerning his education, Quan moved to Mount Gleason Junior High School situated in Tujunga, California. And after Alhambra High School located in Alhambra, California. In 1999, he finished his studies at the USC School of Cinematic Arts.

Child actor

At the age of 12, Quan started his acting profession by playing the role of Short Round, Harrison Ford’s sidekick in the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, after the casting director carried auditions for children at Castelar Elementary School, which included his younger brother.

He then moved on to star in the movie Breathing Fire (1991) and had a small part in Encino Man (1992). Quan also carried on the senior role in the forty-episode Mandarin-language TV show The Big Eunuch and the Little Carpenter, which was cast in 1993.

Also, he performed in the 1996 co-production of Red Pirate, which was made in Hong Kong and Vietnam.

Quitting acting

As he grew older, Quan worked to secure acting roles in the US and finally chose to leave the industry. He enlisted in the film program at the University of Southern California. After graduating, he was requested Corey Yuen to travel to Toronto, Canada, to support and choreograph fight scenes in X-Men (2000).

Over the next ten years, he performed on several productions in both Asia and the US. Quan also assisted Yuen again as a stunt choreographer for The One (2001) and worked as an assistant director on Wong Kar-wai’s 2046 (2004).

Acting Career Redemption

Quan was motivated by the success of Crazy Rich Asians in 2018 to create a comeback in acting. During this time, the Daniels were releasing their movie Everything Everywhere All at Once in the hunt for an actor to play the role of Waymond Wang.

Quan was found by co-director Daniel Kwan on Twitter and was requested to audition for the movie, eventually landing the part. His roles in the film were highly praised, leading to media concentration and further possibilities.

He reserved a supportive role in Finding ʻOhana in September 2019 and was declared to have joined the cast of American Born Chinese for Disney+ in February 2022. Quan also entered the cast for the second season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Loki in September 2022.

Quan is married to Corinna Ke Quan, also renowned as Echo, and they live jointly in Woodland Hills, California. It’s vague what her occupation or background is, and she chooses to keep her personal life secret and does not have a social media existence.

 Quan credits his wife with inspiring him to return to acting after they consulted it for a year. He informed Vanity Fair,

“I didn’t know what it would be like to go and audition and get rejected again and again and I didn’t know whether Hollywood wanted me again. I was famished for a role like this.”

The couple got married after dating for 2 years, but it’s unfamiliar when. They have not conveyed any news about having children or coming plans for having kids.
