The Dixie Chicks are now referred to as The Chicks.
On Thursday, the country trio changed its social media handles to @TheChicks. Dixie their official website now redirects to thechicks.com.
“We want to satisfy this moment,” reads a message posted on the location, signed by members Martie Maguire, Natalie Maines, and Emily Strayer.
They’ve also released a replacement song, “March March,” with a video crammed with footage of protests through the years, while the names of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and dozens more flash across the screen.
The move comes one month after Floyd’s death. Floyd Which has sparked four weeks of protests and national conversations about systemic racism.

It has also led many organizations to reconsider the origins of their names and associated imagery, including Quaker Oats’ “Aunt Jemima” brand and therefore the “Splash Mountain” ride at Disney theme parks.
That also includes fellow country trio Lady Antebellum. Lady who recently made the choice to vary their name to Lady A, renouncing the term used particularly to explain pre-Civil War America, and “associations that beset this word,” including ties to slavery.
That led to a conflict with Anita White, a Black blues singer from Seattle who has performed as “Lady A” for 20 years, who said that they had not contacted her. Both parties eventually connected, and therefore the country trio reported reaching “positive solutions and customary ground.”

The Chicks
“The Chicks” name was previously employed by a replacement Zealand female rock duo within the 1960s. during a statement, Maines, Maguire, and Strayer thanked the first “Chicks” for “their gracious gesture in allowing us to share their name.”
The use of “Dixie” — and its association with the Confederacy — has come under renewed scrutiny in recent weeks. The Chicks’ former name may be a play on “Dixie Chicken,” a song and album by rock band Little Feat.
Next month, The Chicks are set to release “Gaslighter,” their first album in 14 years.
Famously, the country trio’s career took a drastic turn in 2003, after Maines criticized then-president George W. Bush and therefore the impending Iraq War. They never had another hit country song, but their next album. in 2006’s “Taking an extended Way,” debuted at No. 1 and won the Grammy for album of the year.
In 2016, the trio re-emerged with their first U.S. headlining tour during a decade. And appeared on Taylor Swift’s 2019 album “Lover.” They released the “Gaslighter’s” title track earlier this year.
The Chicks aren’t the primary country artists to drop a “Dixie.” In 2018, Dolly Parton changed the name of her “Dixie Stampede” dinner attraction in Pigeon Forge to “Dolly Parton’s Stampede.”
