Who is Harka Sampang Rai?

Harka Sampang Rai is a popular social worker, activist, migrant worker, and Nepali politician who was elected as the mayor of the Dharan Sub metropolitan city on behalf of independents.

The popular mayor was born on February 27, 1983 (2039 BS) in Khartamchha of Khotang.  Currently, he lives in Dharan. As of 2022, he is 39 years old. His father’s and mother’s names have not been disclosed yet to the social media. He has a sister, named Rukmini Rai.

Moreover, he belongs to the Asain ethnicity and holds Nepali nationality. Additionally, he practices Kirat and the Hindu religion.

Currently, he was elected as the mayor of Dharan Sub metropolitan city on behalf of independents. the hardworking social activist says that the source of his power is loyalty and continuity. The independent candidate took part in the by-election of Dharan mayor of 2076BS and received 422 votes. Migrant worker, Sampang is strongly raising the issue of drinking water. And, he said that he will provide priority to stop the leakage of drinking water and the black market immediately.

Previously, he had taught English and Computers at the Tuition Center in Dharan for some time. Then, he went out of the country where he spent six years working in Iraq and Afghanistan. When he come back to Nepal, he bought some cars and gave them to the rent.

In the same way, he carried a microphone on the streets of Dharan and speaks out on various social issues having drinking water and exploitation of natural resources. At first, many people didn’t hear such speeches.

Similarly, he became the co-coordinator and made a struggle committee after the 105- meter Madan Bhandari Highway going through Dharan in 2072 BS uprooted hundreds of families along Dhankute Road.

Also, he fights against the same Dhankute road expansion. Then, he began to raise his voice on the social issues of Dharan such as corruption and bigotry. Besides that, he speaks out against border encroachment and MCC. Likewise, he moved in front of the eastern contingent of the Nepal Army in Itahari. At that time, a group of Jada contractors attacked his supporters in protest of the indiscriminate excavation of the Sardu River and the police charged him.

Moreover, he is interested in literature, so he writes and sings songs himself. A decade ago, he released an album ” Missing Heart”.
