The handsome British actor has portrayed James Bond a total of four times, with a new premiere coming soon

Sometimes actors do such a great job of depicting their character on-screen that fans begin to acknowledge them as that fictional person, without even being able to recall their real name. For example, many people may not know who Daniel Craig is, but most everyone is aware of who James Bond is. Although 007 has been portrayed by seven actors over the course of six decades, Mr. Craig has managed to outshine them all with his back-to-back gripping performances.

Despite his face being immediately recognizable as Bond, James Bond, the international star was once nothing more than an aspiring actor, and definitely not a household name. Below we’ll take a look at how the Secret Agent got his start and what he’s up to in the movie industry nowadays.

Biography: Early Life, Education

A native of Chester, England, Daniel Wroughton Craig was born on March 2nd, 1968 to a steelworker and art teacher. As his background was with a family largely interested in the arts, Craig too got his start in acting from early on, frequenting his local theatre and even gracing the stage for a few performances. It was no surprise then that he left school to seriously pursue his acting career, becoming a member of various clubs, societies, and well-known English theatres.

From there he was accepted to London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Following graduation, Craig was catapulted into a number of roles in England in various 90s shows like Friends in the North and The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders. It wasn’t until later in the early to mid-2000s that the actor became more widely known outside of his country as a prominent figure in Hollywood.

Movies and Achievements

Daniel Craig starred in over a dozen films before landing 007, but his big break undoubtedly arrived with the highly anticipated premiere of Casino Royale in 2006. The franchise decided to go in a different direction, replacing Pierce Bronson with Daniel Craig and Bond fans were ecstatic to see the results. The new British spy did not disappoint, selling out box offices and garnering attention all over the world.

Casino Royale has frequently been referred to by critics as the best Bond film in the series. Perhaps that’s because the movie is filled with action at every twist and turn, as well as a high-stakes poker scene where Craig challenges the villainous Le Chiffre to a heart-stopping game of No-Limit Hold’em, in an effort to stop the flow of funds to an evil organization. These moments are what made Casino Royale one of the most talked-about Bond titles of all time. Overall, the movie was a complete knockout, rivaling that of every title that came before it and propelling Daniel Craig to absolute stardom status.

The film earned the British actor several award nominations including Best Actor in a Leading Role at the BAFTA film awards, and Best International Actor at the Irish Film and Television Awards. Back home in England, he won multiple accolades for his role. Since then, Craig has secured his spot as the famous character, playing him in Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), and Spectre (2015). Big things are in store for the actor this year with the new Bond release, No Time to Die, set to hit theatres as early as September 2021.
