He started his cycling career through the World Cycling Centre in 2018 after inventing the cycling of his cousin, Meron Teshome.
The same year, he got the first stage of Aubel–Thimister–Stavelot, topping out favourite Remco Evenepoel.
Later a year, he received the third stage in a sprint of the La Tropicale Amissa Bongo, his first professional victory with the Eritrea national team. Moreover, his success went regular, winning stage 5 of the Tour of Rwanda in a sprint against experienced riders, involving Joseph Areruya and Daniel Turek. Similarly, in 2020, he attended UCI ProTeam Nippo–Delko–One Provence where he completed second in the Trofeo Laigueglia and the Tour du Doubs.
In the same way, in 2021, he completed second in the under-23 road race at the UCI Road World Championships and made the first black African rider to receive a podium finish in the history of the UCI Road World Championships. Likewise, in 2022, he got the breakaway and made the first African winner of a classic cycle race. Also, he swung his first Grand Tour at the Giro d’Italia and made history as he became the first Black African cyclist to win a stage at a Grand Tour. While honouring his win at the podium, the wine cork shot his left eye at full speed and was transmitted to him to the hospital for remedy.
He thereafter leaves the Giro to allow his eye injury fully heal.
