The Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II is shocked about the hand of the Dubai ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in the kidnap and illegal detention of his two daughters in the UAE. She is going to distance herself from him now, a media report states.

Queen Elizabeth II shuns Dubai ruler

A High Court in the UK ruled that the Dubai ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum had a major role in the kidnap of his two daughters from the UK. Since that, he has detained them for almost twenty years in the UAE illegally and against their wishes.

Times Daily put up a report on Saturday 7 March 2020 saying that the Queen will now refuse to be photographed with him or the princess in public. In the past, the Sheikh had respectful and cordial relations with the Queen. But with this new disclosure, things have changed.

Post-Brexit, the government of the UK was wanting to strengthen the country’s ties with the UAE. But now if the Queen decides to shun the Dubai monarch completely, it would have its bad consequences on UK-UAE relations.

The High Court ruling on the Dubai monarch

On 5 March 2020, UK’s most senior judges found Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum guilty of ordering the abduction of his two daughters, Sheikha Shamsa and Sheikha Latifa. The monarch forced the two to return to Dubai after that.

In August 2000, the King got Sheikha Shamsa, then 19 kidnapped. Later in 2002 and also in 2018, Sheikha Latifa faced similar snatching of her liberty by her father. The High Court ruling was against the ruler who is the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The case had come to light after the sixth wife of the Dubai monarch, Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein made a custody battle case against him. She feared for the lives of her and her children. She also revealed that the two abducted daughters are detained in the palace against their wishes. Princess Haya is the half-sister of King Abdullah II of Jordan. She fled to her home in West London with her kids, Al Jalila, 12 and son Zayed, 8.

The police case reopens

Furthermore, the Cambridgeshire Police is now going to start a review of an investigation of the disappearance of Sheikha Shamsa, now 38. The ruler’s men allegedly abducted her from the streets of Cambridge on 19 August 2000. And she has never made a public appearance after that. So where is she now? In 2001, the police had tried to pursue the case of abduction but had ceased it due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

A spokesperson for the Cambridgeshire Police said:

“An investigation into the alleged abduction of Shamsa Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2000 was carried out by Cambridgeshire Constabulary in 2001. A review took place in 2017 and it was again concluded there was insufficient evidence to take any further action,’

“This is no longer an active investigation and we are not in contact with the victim… However, in light of the recent release of the judgement, aspects of the case will now be subject to review.”
